Process Project Engineer
Full Job Description
About the Role
Pinaka Green is seeking an Owner's Engineer for its green hydrogen plant projects. This pivotal role involves acting as Pinaka's representative throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) vendors design and execute projects to the company's high technical and commercial standards. The position requires a dual focus on process engineering review and project engineering oversight, safeguarding Pinaka's interests as the project owner.
Key Responsibilities
A. Process Engineering Oversight — Technical Review & DPR Ownership
- DPR Ownership: Lead the Detailed Project Report (DPR) process, defining scope, reviewing content (process basis, equipment, CAPEX/OPEX, utilities, safety), and ensuring it meets Pinaka's quality standards for lender and investor scrutiny.
- Engineering Deliverable Review: Critically assess PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, simulation outputs, cause-and-effect diagrams, and layout drawings for technical accuracy and adherence to the design basis.
- Design Basis Stewardship: Ensure consistency in design basis across all vendors and EPC contractors, aligned with Pinaka's internal standards. Formalize deviations when necessary.
- HAZOP and Safety Representation: Represent Pinaka in HAZOP, SIL, and safety reviews, evaluating study quality and tracking action item closure.
- Regulatory Compliance: Oversee the correct preparation of PESO, SMPV(U), GCR, and statutory documentation by vendors, and liaise with regulatory bodies.
- Technical Query Resolution: Review and respond to technical queries and RFIs from EPC/vendors.
B. Project Engineering Oversight — Execution & Compliance
- Schedule & Cost Oversight: Review and challenge project schedules and CAPEX trackers, identifying and escalating risks with proposed solutions.
- EPC/PMC Performance Management: Serve as the primary interface with EPC and PMC vendors, chair progress meetings, and track contractual commitments.
- Procurement Oversight: Review Material Requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor selections for critical equipment like electrolysers and compressors.
- FAT and Inspection: Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and pre-delivery inspections, reviewing protocols, witnessing tests, and approving equipment.
- Construction and Commissioning Oversight: Conduct site visits during construction to verify adherence to drawings, specifications, and HSE norms. Review punch list closures and represent Pinaka at commissioning milestones.
- Document Control: Ensure timely delivery of complete as-built documentation, MRBs, and O&M manuals.
Position Snapshot
Engagement: This role begins as a Contractor/Independent Consultant on a retainer basis, with a 3-month assessment period. There is a clear pathway to a full-time position as the project portfolio expands.
Location: Based in Gurugram, Haryana, with periodic site visits and FAT travel required.
Experience: 2–5 years in process and/or project engineering, with a strong preference for owner/developer or PMC experience over pure EPC roles.
Reporting: Direct report to the Founder & CEO.
Compensation: Approximately ₹6–8 LPA equivalent retainer, performance bonus, and potential equity consideration post-assessment. Site travel and project expenses are covered separately.
Immediate Start: Applications are being processed with urgency.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 2–5 years of experience in process and/or project engineering, ideally from an owner/developer or PMC perspective. Understanding of EPC contract dynamics and vendor practices is essential.
- Proven ability in process engineering review, including critical analysis of PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, simulation outputs, and HAZOP reports.
- Experience contributing to or owning DPRs, feasibility studies, or FEED packages, with a keen eye for bankable and technically rigorous reports.
- Familiarity with hydrogen systems (electrolysers, compression, storage, PESO/SMPV/GCR) is a significant advantage; a strong aptitude for rapid learning is mandatory.
- Proficiency in project controls, including schedule review (MS Project/P6), CAPEX tracking, RFI/TQ management, vendor coordination, and FAT attendance.
- Educational background: B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Chartered Engineer or PMP certification is a plus.
Why Join Pinaka Green?
- Work directly with the Founder & CEO, influencing project execution directly.
- Gain comprehensive, full-lifecycle project ownership from inception to handover.
- Develop expertise in the rapidly growing green hydrogen sector.
- Opportunity for career advancement from contractor to Head of Engineering.
- Potential for equity for high performers.
- A dynamic, non-bureaucratic environment where technical judgment is paramount.
