Principal WordPress Developer - Unified Infotech, Kolkata
Unified Infotech, a leading technology company based in Kolkata, West Bengal, is seeking an experienced Principal PHP WordPress CMS Developer. This role is central to the design, development, and optimization of complex web applications and enterprise-level CMS solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in PHP, WordPress, and modern web technologies, coupled with proven leadership in architecting scalable solutions and mentoring development teams. This is a full-time, permanent position within our Engineering department, offering a General Indian Shift. Salary is not a constraint for the right candidate.
About the Role
We are looking for a Principal PHP WordPress CMS Developer to spearhead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade WordPress solutions. You will be responsible for architecting scalable, secure, and high-performance PHP-based applications and plugins, and integrating WordPress with various third-party APIs, microservices, and external platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Development
- Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade WordPress solutions.
- Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance PHP-based applications and plugins.
- Integrate WordPress with third-party APIs, microservices, and external platforms.
Technical Leadership
- Set coding standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines.
- Mentor and guide junior/mid-level developers, conducting regular code reviews.
- Collaborate with designers, content teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Performance & Security
- Optimize WordPress sites for maximum speed, SEO, and responsiveness.
- Implement advanced caching, CDN integrations, and database optimization techniques.
- Ensure compliance with security best practices, vulnerability patching, and GDPR/data privacy regulations.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and frameworks.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in PHP, WordPress, and CMS development.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 10+ years of professional experience in PHP development, with at least 7+ years in advanced WordPress development.
- Strong expertise in custom theme & plugin development, PHP 7/8, MySQL, REST APIs, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), jQuery, Gutenberg editor, WP-CLI, and Composer.
- Deep understanding of WordPress core, hooks, filters, and multisite architecture.
- Proficiency in modern build tools (Webpack, Gulp, NPM) and version control (Git).
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or similar cloud platforms.
- Strong knowledge of application security, scalability, and performance optimization.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in headless WordPress using React, Vue, or Next.js.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
- Exposure to Docker/Kubernetes for containerized deployments.
- Understanding of SEO best practices and schema markup.
