Principal Software Engineer

Overview

The Office Web Shared Team seeks a Principal Software Engineer passionate about high-scale geo-distributed platforms for Office apps. This role offers hands-on experience in designing, building, and re-architecting applications that serve millions of users globally.

Responsibilities

• Create new designs and architectures influencing product direction.
• Benchmark performance for Word, Excel, PowerPoint apps to drive improvements.
• Prioritize writing secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable code.
• Develop feature-ready code along with comprehensive test cases.
• Identify tech modernization opportunities via quick POCs and partner alignment.
• Define components understanding service interdependencies and limitations.
• Collaborate effectively across multiple product development and engineering teams.
• Demonstrate self-driven curiosity, proactivity, result orientation, thought leadership with strong communication skills.
• Leverage AI opportunities to enhance organizational productivity.
• Foster a culture of Engineering Excellence.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with 6+ years technical engineering experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python (or equivalent).

Preferred:

• 12+ years professional software engineering experience in cloud infrastructure or web development.
• Expertise in Web development languages like C#, Java, Python, TypeScript.
• Deep knowledge of performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and best practices.
• Solid grasp of object-oriented design, test-driven development, agile methodologies.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud platforms.
• Interest in AI/ML/Data Science technologies.
