Principal Engineer

About the Role

Mend™ is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our engineering team as a senior technical leader. You will work closely with our CTO on how AI reshapes software development, designing systems where AI coding agents (like Claude Code) handle code generation, testing, and PR review while maintaining quality, security, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and system design decisions for our core platform in collaboration with the team.
• Define and drive AI-native engineering practices: establishing how to safely use AI coding agents for generation, test writing, PR review, and implementing guardrails like LLM-as-judge frameworks.
• Set technical direction for a React/React Native frontend stack and Node.js/TypeScript plus Python/FastAPI backend stacks.
• Design systems for scalability, security, and maintainability within our AWS infrastructure.
• Build patient-facing and care-team-facing product features with strong clinical-workflow sensibility.
• Mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and hands-on guidance to elevate team capabilities.

You Will

• Partner with leadership on technical hiring, architecture decisions, and AI strategy.
• Support our data security posture ensuring compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2 requirements as we scale.
• Own healthcare interoperability approaches including FHIR-based integrations with EHRs.
