Principal Engineer

Role Overview

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Digital Technology Innovation team in Bengaluru. This is a strategic leadership role focused on architecting and scaling next-generation, GenAI-powered, API-first Open Banking platforms for our Commercial and Corporate Banking divisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect enterprise-grade AI systems, integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), RAG architectures, and agent frameworks into mission-critical Java-based banking systems.
• Provide technical leadership and advisory services to senior stakeholders, influencing long-term engineering strategy and innovation across the enterprise.
• Drive the development of high-throughput, distributed systems using Java, Spring Boot, and modern cloud-native architectures.
• Ensure the integration of AI-enabled services adheres to strict financial regulatory, governance, and model validation frameworks.
• Mentor senior engineering teams, conduct deep technical design reviews, and foster a culture of engineering excellence and operational resilience.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience in complex, large-scale environments.
• Expertise in the Java ecosystem (Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, concurrency, performance tuning).
• Demonstrated experience designing high-performance distributed systems in production.
• 1-2 years of specialized experience delivering GenAI solutions, including RAG and vector databases.
• Strong background in cloud-native technologies (GCP/Azure) and event-driven architectures (Kafka).
• Deep understanding of the financial services domain, including Payments, Treasury, or FX.
