About the Role: HARMAN Automotive is seeking a Principal Engineer – Android HMI to lead the design, development, and optimization of Android-based Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications for next-generation automotive infotainment systems. This role is pivotal in delivering seamless, high-performance in-vehicle user experiences while collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate advanced audio and connectivity solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- HMI Development: Design, develop, and maintain Android HMI applications for automotive infotainment systems, ensuring intuitive UI/UX and robust performance.
- Technical Leadership: Leverage expertise in Java, Kotlin, Android SDK, and AOSP/Android Automotive to customize and optimize HMI frameworks for embedded automotive environments.
- System Integration: Collaborate with UX/UI designers, system engineers, and embedded teams to ensure seamless integration of HMI applications with vehicle networks (e.g., CAN, LIN) and infotainment platforms.
- Performance Optimization: Debug and resolve issues related to application behavior, memory efficiency, and real-time responsiveness in resource-constrained automotive systems.
- Architecture & Innovation: Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and system architecture planning to drive advancements in in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), safety, and user engagement.
- Tooling & Collaboration: Utilize Git, JIRA, and Confluence for version control, project tracking, and documentation, fostering a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Technical Skills:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Android application development, with a focus on HMI/IVI systems.
- Expertise in Java, Kotlin, Android SDK, and custom UI components.
- Experience with AOSP customization and Android Automotive platform is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN) and embedded systems.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for performance-critical environments.
