Job Title: PI Engineer (PI Field Engineer) (IN-PI-05)

Purpose of the Job: The PI Engineer is responsible for providing field engineering leadership, assistance, and support to projects and the PI team. This role is crucial for the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical and quality issues encountered during project execution.

Organization: This position falls under Product Introduction Management, operating at the site, country, cluster, region, or platform level. The role reports directly to the PI Customer Site Manager and also to the Project PI Manager within the project organization. There are no direct reports for this position.

Network & Links:

  • Internal: This role will collaborate with Participating Units and Subsystem Managers, Customer Site PI team, PI Support team (Back-office), RAMS team, Project Engineering team, Quality team (PrQSM and SQ), Installation and Test & Commissioning teams, Internal Supplier representatives, Sourcing and Contract Manager, Integrated Service Readiness (ISR), Maintenance/Service teams, and Global System representatives.
  • External: Interactions will include Train drivers, Customer site teams, Customer maintenance teams (if external to Alstom), and External Suppliers.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for all technical activities related to Alstom products throughout the PI period, as well as during Commissioning, Warranty, and Validation & Certification phases.
  • Diagnose the causes of equipment malfunctions and failures, recommending preventative and corrective actions.
  • Define troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Offer technical guidance and support to technicians during troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Provide feedback on deficiencies in technical documentation.
  • Advise PI management on customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product enhancements.
  • Drive Kx (8D) issues with Quality and internal/external Suppliers, supporting the PrPIM.
  • Ensure the completeness and quality of input to the Failure Management database for RAMS exploitation.
  • Drive Reliability Growth through failure/event investigation and reliability forecast implementation, in conjunction with RAMS support.
  • Drive and support containment actions to prevent recurrence of failures.
  • Support the control of as-maintained Alstom product configurations and associated documentation management.
  • Participate in technical reviews with internal and external Suppliers, partners, customers, and authorities.
  • Facilitate information flow within the PI Customer Site, PI functions, and project teams, providing status updates and transparency on PI activities and key technical issues to the PrPIM.
  • Apply EHS requirements on site, with support from EHS team representatives.
  • Drive technical Return of Experience (REX)/reporting/feedback, supporting the PrPIM.
  • Support Obsolescence Management where applicable.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of Field Modifications (FM).

Performance Measurements:

  • Achievement of contractual reliability and availability milestone targets.
  • Timely containment and resolution of K1S/K2/K3 issues.
  • Completeness and quality of failure/event diagnosis, data, and relevant documentation.
  • Reliability improvement following FM implementation.
  • Achievement of PI Dashboard targets.
  • Completion of configuration updates.
  • Implementation of REX initiatives.
  • Audit results (internal and external).
  • Compliance with EHS rules and work-related processes.

Main Required Competences:

  • Mandatory: Graduate in Engineering or Industrial fields (Internal Graduation acceptable); Internal EHS training; Proficiency in English.
  • Desirable: Master’s degree in Engineering.

Experience:

  • Mandatory: Several years of technical experience in mechanical or electrical/electronic engineering; experience with Railway safety & RAM; EHS knowledge/exposure; Product knowledge; Data analytics skills.
  • Desirable: General Railway knowledge; Field experience; Problem-solving skills; DFQ, Quality, and Audit skills; Customer contact experience.
