OS Administration Professional (Unix/Linux/Windows) - Hyderabad

Virtusa is seeking a skilled OS Administration Professional to join their team in Hyderabad. This role involves comprehensive system administration tasks, focusing on maintaining the health, security, and performance of various operating systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily system administration tasks, including monitoring and managing system health checks for operating systems and software.
• Provide support to network administrators for LAN, WAN, and internet-related issues.
• Manage and control software licenses.
• Ensure the security of backend systems and Local Area Networks (LANs).
• Offer guidance and recommendations on all backend operating systems.
• Administer Windows, UNIX, LINUX, AIX, and NT-based platforms.
• Install and configure system backup, restore, and failover software and hardware (e.g., NetBackup, Veritas, Legato).
• Conduct performance tuning and optimization of resource configurations across all platforms and LANs.
• Support the configuration of routers, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Assist in the installation and configuration of databases and monitoring software (e.g., Big Brother).
• Apply system OS and database patch sets.
• Install Oracle database software.

General Duties:

• Adhere to quality management systems, occupational health, safety, and environment policies.
• Maintain security in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures.
• Comply with Human Resources procedures.
• Undertake other duties as requested.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• A three-year college degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• A minimum of two years of systems administration experience.
• Proficiency in administering various Windows and UNIX Operating Systems.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in LAN network engineering, including TCP/IP and internet protocols.
• Significant experience with HP and Sun UNIX platforms.
• Experience implementing UNIX and LAN security measures, including firewalls.
• In-depth understanding of System Administration methodologies and principles.
• Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic.
• Good working knowledge of common programming languages such as C/C++, Java, PERL, and RUBY.
