Network Security Engineer II

Rackspace Technology is seeking a skilled Network Security Engineer II to join our remote team. This role involves managing and migrating multi-vendor firewall environments, including Cisco ASA (Classic), Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD), and Palo Alto Networks NGFWs via Panorama. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining F5 BIG-IP solutions for Application Delivery and Security (LTM, ASM/WAF) and implementing software-defined networking (SDN) with VMware NSX for micro-segmentation and virtualized security services. A key aspect of this role is architecting strategies for migrating legacy Cisco ASA rulesets to next-generation firewalls (Cisco Firepower or Palo Alto) without service interruption. As a Tier 3 support engineer, you will be the primary escalation point for complex network outages, security breaches, and performance issues globally, providing exceptional customer support via phone and ticketing systems. You will own customer requests and escalations from other teams, collaborating with Service Delivery Managers and Account Executives to build strong customer relationships. This includes working with customers in pre-implementation phases, designing solutions, quality checking deployments, and performing initial vulnerability assessments. You will also participate in maintenance activities, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for process and technology improvements, and contribute to knowledge sharing through articles and presentations. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for interacting with customers and internal stakeholders, including presenting solutions. The role requires a flexible schedule for 24x7x365 coverage, including holidays and weekends.

Technical Skills & Qualifications:

• Security & Networking Stack: Advanced Cisco ASA (CLI/ASDM) and Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) management via FMC. Deep experience with Palo Alto NGFW features (App-ID, User-ID, SSL Decryption). Proficiency in F5 BIG-IP, including iRules development, SSL offloading, and traffic steering. Hands-on experience with VMware NSX, specifically distributed firewalls (DFW) and edge gateways. Mastery of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and deep packet inspection.
• Required Certifications: CCNA Security (Required), CCNP Security (Highly Preferred), Cisco Firepower or ASA specialist certifications (significant plus). PCNSE (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer) (Highly Preferred). Supplemental: F5-CTS, VCP-NV (Preferred).
• Experience Requirements: Intermediate level professional experience in network security engineering. Demonstrated experience managing complex firewall rule bases (10,000+ rules) across disparate platforms. Expertise in troubleshooting complex asymmetric routing issues and application-level latency in a multi-vendor environment.
