Position Summary
New Era Technology is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Level 1 / Level 2 Network Technician to join our Managed Service Provider (MSP) team. In this permanent, full-time remote role based in India, you will be responsible for the patching and maintenance of networking equipment for multiple clients. Your core duties will include deploying firmware updates, ensuring network devices are secure and up-to-date, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and maintaining network infrastructure to meet stringent security and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy firmware updates and critical security patches to a range of networking devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
- Ensure all networking devices consistently remain updated with vendor-recommended patches and security fixes.
- Monitor patching schedules, meticulously documenting both successful and failed update deployments.
- Troubleshoot issues encountered during patch deployment and escalate complex problems effectively.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve patch-related bugs, vulnerabilities, and performance degradation.
- Verify that all patched networking devices adhere to industry-leading security best practices.
- Document security patching procedures and maintain comprehensive compliance records.
- Monitor system health dashboards to proactively identify and address potential network issues.
- Maintain detailed documentation of maintenance schedules, patch deployments, and resolutions within the ITSM system.
- Respond promptly to IT service requests and incidents related to patching and network maintenance.
- Diagnose and resolve performance, compatibility, and security issues that arise from patch deployments.
- Ensure robust rollback procedures are established and followed for any failed update attempts.

Required Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a Network Engineer role.
- Thorough understanding of firmware updates and patching procedures for various networking equipment.
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network maintenance best practices.
- Ability to participate in the planning and execution of hardware and firmware upgrades for both new and existing equipment.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, remote access, MFA, DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, and QoS.
- Strong background working with Cisco (ASA and Meraki), Fortinet, and Sonic Wall devices.
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of the relationship between network infrastructure and cybersecurity principles and practices.
Preferred Certifications/Skills
- Cisco CCNA certification is preferred.
- Experience with multiple network technology stacks, such as SolarWinds and Auvik.
- Knowledge and experience in network virtualization technologies, including Azure and AWS.
- Experience working within Managed Service Providers (MSPs) with tools like ConnectWise or ITGlue is considered a bonus.
- Knowledge of VOIP systems is also a bonus.
