Network Engineer Tier 2

We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer (Tier 2) to join our dynamic NOC Teams in Pune, India. This hybrid role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of GTT's expansive global network, which spans multiple platforms and operates at a large scale. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Network Operations Manager and will require a highly flexible approach to a wide range of tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in customer test and turn-up procedures for DWDM/ADM/Ethernet services.
• Perform customer circuit troubleshooting using industry-standard test equipment.
• Collaborate effectively with GTT NOC Engineers and Network Operations departments globally.
• Generate comprehensive reports and maintain accurate inventories.
• Support the management of Planned Preventative Maintenance programs and schedules.
• Undertake network installations and troubleshooting.
• Handle non-routine duties as assigned.
• Provide training to other staff members as needed.
• Generate and maintain site documentation, including records, reports, and supply/equipment orders.
• Conduct periodic equipment inspections to proactively identify and resolve potential problems.
• Replace electrical and electronic components, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, lamps, and cables.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians on complex plant items and industrial machinery maintenance.
• Supervise planned works, conduct post-mortems, and assess efficiency, financial worth, and lessons learned.
• Contribute to reducing operational running costs.
• Review, authorize, and manage Method of Procedures (MOPS) and Risk Assessments (RAs) before on-site works, evaluating potential risks.
• Provide hands-on technical assistance during emergencies.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proven experience in optical networks and technical facilities.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an operational environment within a medium to large-scale carrier or ISP is highly advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience in a role requiring daily complex technical problem-solving.
• A degree in an Engineering-related field, preferably with Telecoms/Datacomms modules.
• Hands-on experience with power and telecoms equipment installations.
• Strong understanding of fiber management principles.
• Proficiency with test equipment such as OSA, OTDR, BERT, and RFC 2544 test sets.
• Experience troubleshooting BGP, MPLS, VPLS, DSL, PPP, IP Routing, and Switching technologies.
• A solid understanding of SONET/SDH principles is required.
• Experience with SDWAN, Fortinet, Aruba, and Silver Peak.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, and OSI protocols is a significant advantage.
• Optical network installation and troubleshooting skills are beneficial.
• Familiarity with Health & Safety (H&S) practices and contractor management.
• Knowledge of network monitoring and other administrative tools.
• Understanding of networking technologies and protocols.
• Strong PC skills with proficiency in MS Office and relevant industry software.
• Flexibility to contribute to a 24/7/365 Network Operations Team.
• Broad knowledge of industry technologies, contacts, and lead times.
• Experience working in Data Centres and Comms Rooms/Exchanges.
• Competency in handling AC/DC power.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Self-motivated with excellent written and communication skills.
• Creative problem-solving abilities.

This is a permanent position requiring rotational shifts, primarily aligned with US business hours.
