Network Development Engineer
Full Job Description
Join our dynamic Office Network Reliability Engineering (ONRE) team and play a crucial role in shaping the network infrastructure that powers over 540,000 Amazonians across more than 400 corporate offices globally. As a Network Development Engineer in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, you will transcend traditional network operations by spearheading the development of automation solutions, creating self-service tools, and establishing robust operational processes. This empowers our teams to independently resolve incidents, all while benefiting from the guidance of experienced engineers dedicated to your professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a Tier 3 escalation support for the APAC regional hub, participating in an on-call rotation. Independently diagnose and resolve well-defined network failures, including wireless access point issues, LAN connectivity problems, VLAN misconfigurations, circuit disruptions, and authentication failures. Provide support to senior engineers on complex multi-site or cross-system incidents.
- Troubleshoot across various network layers, including wireless (802.11, Aruba controllers), routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP), network authentication (802.1X, RADIUS, ISE), and circuit infrastructure. Recognize when to escalate ambiguous or high-risk incidents to senior engineers.
- Contribute to organizational knowledge by developing runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and tribal knowledge documentation. Capture your troubleshooting steps, findings, and resolution details to ensure your expertise is reusable by operations teams and future team members.
- Assist in developing automation scripts and self-service tools under senior engineer guidance, enhancing your scripting proficiency on real operational use cases. Co-deliver targeted training sessions to operations teams.
- Execute proactive reliability initiatives by completing assigned tasks within network availability, operating system compliance, and configuration compliance programs. Identify technical debt, validate upgrade readiness, and document outcomes to maintain network fleet health.
A Day in the Life:
Your daily experience as a Network Development Engineer on the ONRE team is a blend of learning, contributing, and cultivating the habits of a builder. Your shift begins with a regional handoff from the AMER team, reviewing overnight escalations and addressing any open items. You might be tasked with resolving a single-site wireless issue, diagnosing a VLAN misconfiguration, and restoring service, then documenting the process and identifying the need for a new runbook. Later, you might support a senior engineer on a complex multi-site WAN issue, observing their fault isolation, carrier engagement, and communication management skills. Afternoon tasks could involve validating upgrade readiness for network devices, identifying pre-existing configuration issues, and documenting findings. You'll close your shift by updating documentation, handing off to the EMEA team, and reviewing feedback on your contributions.
About The Team:
We are a globally distributed team of experienced builders committed to developing the next generation of network engineers. Our ONRE team in Hyderabad values intellectual curiosity, engineering craft, and partnership. We operate at the intersection of incident resolution, operational documentation, and proactive reliability programs, serving the 540,000 Amazonians who rely on our networks daily. You will own impactful outcomes from day one, with your contributions being visible across the organization. We operate a 24/7/365 follow-the-sun model and you will participate in the on-call rotation for the APAC hub, collaborating closely with various internal teams.
