Role Overview

eBay Inc. is seeking a talented MTS 1 Backend Software Engineer to architect, design, and develop innovative software solutions powering our global selling experience used by over 25 million sellers in more than 20 countries.

What You Will Accomplish

• Deliver highly scalable, reliable backend systems for eBay's core commerce funnel.
• Drive improvements in performance and accuracy supporting billions of dollars in quarterly revenue.
• Enable seamless onboarding and inventory management experiences worldwide.
• Build distributed, fault-tolerant systems across data centers.
• Own features end-to-end from architecture through deployment and support.
• Influence architectural decisions for core platform services.

What You Will Bring

• Bachelor's in EE/CS or equivalent with 5+ years building scalable distributed systems (Master's: 4+, PhD: 3+).
• Strong expertise in Java and/or Scala, data structures, algorithms, and concurrent programming.
• Deep understanding of system design and project leadership.
• Experience with REST/SOAP services, design patterns, OOA/D, and internet-scale applications.
• Hands-on experience with relational/NoSQL databases (Oracle, MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase) and search technologies like Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity applying AI tools for code generation and automated testing.
• Strong collaboration skills across global teams.
• Solid understanding of performance, scalability, security, and modern web technologies.
