Mobile Engineer II

Role Overview

The Mobile Engineer II at Cox Automotive will build, evolve, and take ownership of native Android mobile applications. This role operates within NextGear Capital to support customers, team members, and business operations through automotive inventory finance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Leverage AI agents and tools throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to build, test, and deploy software while ensuring high-quality output ownership.
• Pioneer prompt engineering experimentation and share insights on tool usage with the team.
• Collaborate in design discussions to conceptualize desired outcomes from a software engineering perspective.
• Assist in estimating features regarding technical input, resources, time, and anticipated results.
• Develop rigorous unit and system tests for integral code paths, adhering strictly to secure coding practices.
• Provide technical support by troubleshooting and enhancing existing or new features within application structures.
• Utilize observability tools (logs, metrics, traces) to monitor system health, diagnose issues, and validate production behavior.
• Document processes to capture best practices, methodologies, and repeatability for future use.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 2+ years of experience OR Master's/PhD degree (up to 2 years' experience) or equivalent technical expertise totaling up to 14 years in the field.
• Demonstrated, consistent use of AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) across the SDLC with critical evaluation skills.
• Proven ability to build native mobile applications using Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) and/or iOS (Swift/SwiftUI).
• Familiarity with modern mobile architecture patterns, REST APIs, backend services (Java/Spring Boot), and Git workflows.
