Platform Architect - Data Science & Analytics

Carrier Global Corporation, a global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions, seeks a Platform Architect to lead the end-to-end architecture and technical direction of its enterprise data platform. This platform, built on a Lakehouse architecture and deployed across AWS and GCP, is crucial for enabling enterprise-scale analytics, AI/ML, and data products. The architect will define platform design, development, governance, and evolution, ensuring scalability, security, interoperability, and cloud-agnosticism through open data standards. This hands-on role requires accountability for the technical integrity and long-term sustainability of the data platform, minimizing vendor lock-in.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the Lakehouse architecture (storage, compute, metadata, governance, observability) across AWS and GCP.
• Define and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and architectural standards for multi-cloud environments.
• Act as the final technical authority for platform-level architectural decisions.
• Ensure architectural choices support scalability, resilience, security, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.
• Design the platform around open data standards (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Parquet) to ensure portability.
• Enforce separation of storage and compute for flexibility.
• Define principles for schema evolution, ACID guarantees, time travel, and multi-engine interoperability.
• Architect for high availability, observability, operational simplicity, and FinOps principles.
• Define the governance architecture including metadata management, lineage, access control, and auditability.
• Partner with Platform Engineers and Data Engineers to translate architecture into reusable capabilities.
• Enable self-service platform usage while maintaining governance and controls.
• Serve as the primary architecture interface between engineering, security, governance, and business stakeholders.
• Lead architecture reviews, roadmap planning, and technology evaluations.
• Mentor senior engineers and architects.

Required Qualifications:

• 16+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or data architecture.
• Proven experience architecting enterprise-scale data platforms, especially Lakehouse architectures.
• Hands-on architectural experience with AWS and/or GCP, designing for both.
• Deep understanding of open data standards (table formats, file formats, metadata, lineage).
• Experience defining reference architectures, guardrails, and engineering standards.
• Ability to balance long-term vision with near-term delivery needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Microsoft Azure data and analytics services.
• Experience designing multi-cloud or cloud-agnostic data platforms.
• Familiarity with multiple analytics and query engines.
• Experience with enterprise data governance frameworks and metadata platforms.
• Exposure to AI/ML platform integration on Lakehouse architectures.
• Prior experience leading large-scale platform modernization or migration initiatives.
