As a founding engineer on our Reporting & Statements team, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing the systems that generate all our financial reports and statements, from monthly summaries to daily client statements and custom requests. We are building automated frameworks to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and consistency in all financial data delivered to our clients.

Technical Skills:

• Design and implement RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints to serve financial data to internal product teams and external clients.
• Develop a robust service integration layer between backend services and the data platform, ensuring reliable data flow and comprehensive error handling.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

• Play a key role in shaping architectural decisions for the API and service delivery infrastructure as a founding engineer on a new team.
• Balance the critical requirements of accuracy, performance, and scalability while meeting tight client deadlines for reporting products.

Organizational Knowledge:

• Collaborate closely with Data Engineers to define data contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), ensuring seamless integration between the data engine and the API layer.
• Partner with Product teams to design intuitive APIs that enable self-service access to critical financial data.

Communication and Influence:

• Champion best practices in API design and service reliability across the engineering organization in collaboration with other teams.
• Contribute significantly to technical roadmap planning and help cultivate a supportive, collaborative engineering culture for the new team.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Backend Systems Experience: 5-7+ years of experience building backend systems, with a proven track record of collaborating on the design and deployment of production APIs and services that handle complex business logic at scale.
• Service Stewardship: Demonstrated experience managing services end-to-end in production environments, understanding the requirements for building reliable, observable, and maintainable systems.
• API Design Proficiency: Expertise in Go or Python, with hands-on experience building RESTful APIs and a strong understanding of designing interfaces that balance flexibility with performance.
• Data-Intensive Systems: Experience building backend services that interact with databases such as PostgreSQL, BigQuery, or similar, including expertise in query optimization, connection pooling, and data consistency patterns.
• Cloud-Native Development: Experience deploying and operating services on cloud platforms (GCP preferred), including containerization, monitoring, and incident response.

Bonus Points:

• GraphQL Experience: Prior experience building GraphQL APIs and understanding the trade-offs between GraphQL and REST for various use cases.
• Financial Domain Knowledge: Experience in fintech, banking, or similar regulated environments where data accuracy and auditability are paramount.
• Data Platform Collaboration: Experience working closely with data engineering teams and a solid understanding of modern data stack patterns (data warehouses, orchestration, CDC, etc.).
• A shared appreciation for narratives that chronicle the founding of new financial systems.
