Member of Technical Staff

athenahealth is seeking a talented Member of Technical Staff to join our dynamic team in Bengaluru. This hybrid role focuses on building and enhancing the cloud foundation that powers reliable, secure, and scalable technology operations. You will play a crucial part in supporting our Azure infrastructure, driving automation for cloud operations, and championing infrastructure as code (IaC) practices across all our environments.

Our continuous efforts are directed towards refining infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance to minimize manual effort and free up engineering time for high-value initiatives. As part of Tech Ops, we foster close partnerships with engineering and platform teams to bolster cloud operations, enhance service reliability, and establish consistent, repeatable infrastructure patterns.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Construct and maintain Azure infrastructure components essential for internal platforms, applications, and operational services.
• Develop and manage infrastructure as code solutions leveraging ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform, and other related IaC tools.
• Automate routine cloud administration and operational tasks through PowerShell scripting and adherence to best practices.
• Support the provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of Azure resources across development, test, and production environments.
• Monitor cloud infrastructure health, availability, and performance, actively resolving infrastructure issues promptly.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and platform teams to implement secure, consistent, and scalable cloud configurations.
• Create comprehensive documentation for infrastructure designs, deployment procedures, configuration standards, and operational protocols to enhance team efficiency and service continuity.
• Contribute to incident response, root cause analysis, and the implementation of follow-up actions to boost reliability and prevent issue recurrence.
• Standardize templates, scripts, and provisioning workflows to improve deployment and environment consistency.
• Utilize AI tools strategically to accelerate script development, summarize infrastructure changes, troubleshoot recurring Azure issues, and learn new operational patterns, always validating outputs for accuracy and security.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Assist in evaluating new Azure services, automation strategies, and infrastructure tooling to optimize team workflows.
• Participate in code reviews for infrastructure templates and scripts, ensuring maintainability and consistency.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing via documentation updates, demonstrations, or team discussions.
• Provide support for audit, compliance, and access review activities related to cloud infrastructure as needed.
• Offer daily support for Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
• Assist in maintaining backup, recovery, and environment readiness procedures for supported systems.
• Collaborate with teammates on minor improvements to monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards.
• Recommend updates to existing scripts or templates based on operational experience and issue trends.
• Provide implementation support during planned infrastructure maintenance or release activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 to 4 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, platform engineering, or technical operations roles.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Azure services for infrastructure provisioning and management.
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code using ARM templates, Bicep, and Terraform.
• Experience with Windows Administration and PowerShell scripting for automation and operational tasks.
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts including networking, compute, storage, identity, access management, and monitoring.
• Familiarity with Linux is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and deployment automation practices in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD software and tools such as Git, Jenkins, Harness, Artifactory, Azure DevOps.
• Experience managing large fleets of Windows servers with configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef, or Ansible is a plus.
• Understanding of troubleshooting methods for infrastructure, configuration, and environment-related issues.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and adhere to established operational processes.
• Strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment with engineers across various functions and locations.
