Mechanical Design Engineer - I (MGSE & Ground Systems) at Catalyx Space, Ahmedabad, India
Catalyx Space is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer - I with a focus on Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Ground Systems. This role is crucial for the development and deployment of our next-generation space entry systems. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, validating, and deploying ground station rotators and related mechanical systems. This is a hands-on position, offering an excellent opportunity for engineers eager to grow by working on both mechanical and electromechanical systems that directly support flight hardware. Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and validate MGSE hardware, including integration fixtures, handling rigs, and test stands.
- Design, develop, and deploy ground station rotators and other ground support equipment (GS) related mechanical hardware.
- Create and maintain precise CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Perform critical tolerance stack-ups for complex sub-assemblies.
- Integrate essential electromechanical components such as motors, drivers, controllers, and sensors into robust ground systems.
- Actively participate in spacecraft integration activities and provide essential support during assembly and test operations.
- Effectively coordinate with vendors to ensure the successful fabrication and assembly of MGSE and GS hardware.
- Support qualification test campaigns, including vibration, thermal, and acoustic testing, with direct hands-on involvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and configuration within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in aerospace structural design and integration.
- Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards for engineering drawings and tolerancing.
- Proven experience with performing tolerance stack-up analyses.
- Basic understanding of electronics integration, including motor drivers, controllers, and sensors.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to manage designs from initial CAD concept through to deployed hardware.
- A strong passion for and interest in spacecraft integration and test support.
- Capability to take ownership of subassemblies from conception to completion.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration.
- Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours or weekends when required to meet project timelines.
