Mapping Ahmedabad / India Expert

Role Objective
The team works on keeping map data accurate and updated based on real-world changes in Ahmedabad, India. The work includes reviewing issues submitted by map users and testing location results shown in web search and map platforms.

This Mapping City/Country Expert supports transit and mapping data quality for the Indian market by providing local expertise to improve city- and country-level data accuracy.

Responsibilities – City Expert

• Communicate with internal teams and external partners to support project goals within India
• Create city-level transit data policies based on Ahmedabad's local market needs, regulations, and urban infrastructure
• Identify user expectations, data gaps, and transit-related issues specific to Indian users
• Improve transit data models using deep knowledge of Ahmedabad's transportation systems (bus routes, metro lines, auto-rickshaws)
• Validate and review updated transit data for accuracy in the local context
• Edit and maintain different types of transit data on internal platforms
• Resolve complex mapping and transit data issues encountered by users in Ahmedabad
• Support Program Managers in communication with Indian data providers, transport authorities, and partners
• Conduct field research to verify transit information (e.g., bus stops) and user-reported issues across the city
• Support outage and alert management for assigned cities including real-time incident response
• Manage city-specific data pipelines using internal platforms with basic programming skills

Responsibilities – Country Expert

• Create country-specific guideline documents for operations teams covering India's mapping standards
• Provide local expertise for mapping policies and regional regulations applicable across India (including states like Gujarat)
• Support mapping operations with knowledge of Indian traffic laws, landmarks, and political mapping formats (e.g., state boundaries, city limits)
• Review and troubleshoot mapping and operational issues specific to the region
• Act as a point of contact for country-specific mapping questions regarding India's legal framework
• Perform quality audits and identify operational errors in Indian datasets
• Review imported mapping data before system integration ensuring compliance with local norms
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure correct political and regional formats are applied for all of India

Requirements

• 1-3 years of relevant experience in GIS, transit mapping, or location services within the Indian context
• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, Urban Planning, or equivalent practical experience
• Excellent communication skills in English and proficiency in Hindi/ Gujarati (local language)
• Tech-savvy with basic programming knowledge: Python, Java, C#, or C++ preferred for data pipeline tasks
• Familiarity with GIS tools such as QGIS, Google Maps Platform API, Mapbox, or OpenStreetMap editing workflows
• Strong knowledge of local transit systems (local bus networks, metro rails), traffic laws, and key landmarks in Ahmedabad and India at large
• Comfortable working in a fast-changing environment with dynamic data updates
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to debug mapping discrepancies
• Excellent attention to detail when validating geospatial coordinates
