Manager of Software Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Java Distributed Systems Engineer at JPMorgan Chase to design, build, and operate highly scalable, resilient, and cloud-native backend systems within the Consumer and Community Bank. As a core technical contributor in this agile team, you will enhance trusted market-leading technology products delivered securely.

• Executes creative software solutions involving design, development, and troubleshooting with an ability to break down complex technical problems beyond conventional approaches.
• Develops secure high-quality production code, reviews peers' work, and debugs applications effectively.
• Identifies opportunities to automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability.
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors and internal teams for architectural design probing.
• Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g., code review, test strategy acceleration) while establishing consistent validation standards like secure coding and automated testing.
• Leverages tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve automation value.
• Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering for emerging technologies awareness.

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 5+ years applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Advanced proficiency in Java programming language.
• Proficiency in automation methods and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
• In-depth understanding of agile methodologies including Application Resiliency and Security.
• Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, ensuring validation for correctness, performance, and security.
• Familiarity with responsible AI workflows regarding data sensitivity and secure handling within delivery practices.

• Experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes.
• In-depth knowledge of financial services industry IT systems (preferred).
• Practical experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot-based microservices architecture (preferred).
