Howmet Aerospace seeks a dedicated Machining Maintenance Technician (Electronics) for its facility in Carson, California. This role is crucial for maintaining, repairing, adjusting, and modifying essential machinery and equipment. Responsibilities include performing a wide range of technician skills encompassing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. You will be responsible for connecting power supplies, diagnosing and repairing malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, and replacing damaged wires and cables. Key tasks involve testing machinery, discussing malfunctions with appropriate personnel, and replacing faulty electrical components including relays, switches, motors, sensors, and PLCs. The role also includes planning wiring layouts, installing conduit and electrical devices, and adhering strictly to safety regulations and plant policies. This position requires performing highly diversified duties for the installation and maintenance of production machinery and plant equipment, providing emergency and scheduled repairs, and interpreting equipment manuals and work orders. Successful candidates will diagnose problems, repair or replace parts, test systems, and utilize various hand and power tools. You will also detect faulty operations and report unusual situations. This is a full-time, onsite position.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform technician skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting, and repair of production machines.
  • Connect power supply wires and cables between machines and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning apparatus (e.g., transformers, motors, lighting fixtures), replacing damaged wires and cables.
  • Test malfunctioning machinery and collaborate with personnel to diagnose issues.
  • Replace faulty electrical components like relays, switches, motors, and sensors.
  • Replace PLCs.
  • Plan wiring layouts and install wiring, conduit, and electrical devices in manufacturing equipment.
  • Strictly adhere to safety regulations and plant policies.
  • Install and maintain production machines and plant facility tools and equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs and perform scheduled maintenance on production equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders for maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, repair or replace parts, test, and make adjustments.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective materials, and report unusual situations.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience troubleshooting and repairing production and/or manufacturing equipment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to lawfully obtain access to export-controlled items.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Carson, California.
  • Must be able to work 1st shift, with availability for overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift 15-30 lbs. unassisted and repetitively.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical systems for production equipment.
  • Experience maintaining machinery such as CNC Machines, machine washers, and salt lines.
  • Familiarity with Davenport, Traub, Sasspi, and/or Waterbury machines.
  • Experience working with PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.).
  • Knowledge of or experience with Screw Machines, Drillers, Tappers, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow oral and written directions and work unsupervised.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of electrical equipment codes, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and drawings.
  • Familiarity with commercial building codes.
