LLM Engineer

Smart Working is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to spearhead the design and development of an AI-powered system for automating technical report generation in insurance claims. This is a hands-on, product-centric role focused on delivering a production-ready solution that seamlessly integrates into existing business workflows. Currently, report generation is a manual process involving engineers analyzing fragmented data from various sources like documents, images, videos, and historical reports. Your objective will be to construct an end-to-end AI solution capable of processing this unstructured data, extracting relevant context, and producing accurate, structured outputs.

You will leverage LLM-based systems, specifically retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, to build scalable solutions that interface with current systems. This role demands a strong builder mentality, adeptness in handling complex data, and the confidence to navigate evolving requirements. Beyond delivery, you will play a key role in guiding the organization's AI adoption, effectively communicating with stakeholders, and shaping the implementation of AI solutions across the business.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement comprehensive AI solutions for document understanding and automated report generation.
• Build and deploy LLM-based systems, including RAG pipelines, to efficiently retrieve and synthesize context from diverse data sources.
• Process and transform unstructured and semi-structured data (e.g., PDFs, documents, images, historical records) into usable inputs for AI systems.
• Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on AI solutions to achieve measurable improvements.
• Integrate AI outputs into existing systems via APIs, collaborating with backend teams working with C# and SQL Server.
• Ensure the scalability, reliability, and practical alignment of solutions with real-world business workflows.
• Address challenges related to performance, accuracy, and usability of AI-generated outputs.
• Operate within strict data privacy and security protocols, including handling sensitive information and exploring local model deployment options.
• Collaborate with internal teams to gather requirements and refine use cases.
• Clearly articulate technical concepts, trade-offs, and solution strategies to non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to the organization's AI adoption strategy and best practices.

Requirements:

• Proven experience developing real-world AI applications utilizing LLMs, with a focus on RAG or document-centric AI systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python for constructing data pipelines, AI workflows, and integrations.
• Demonstrated experience in delivering end-to-end AI solutions from concept to production.
• Hands-on experience working with unstructured data, including various document formats.
• Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate, efficiently transitioning from idea to a functional solution.
• Experience integrating AI systems into existing applications through APIs.
• Familiarity with integrating AI solutions into environments with legacy systems and backend technologies.
• Exposure to cloud or hybrid environments (Azure, AWS, etc.) for AI solution deployment.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to building effective solutions.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical audiences.
