Lead Software Engineer

About the Role

Cimpress Technology builds best-in-world software powering mass customization for 17 million global customers. The CT Commerce domain seeks a Lead Software Engineer to lead the Payments team—a business-critical platform ensuring secure, reliable payment experiences across multiple channels.

What You Will Do:

• Technical Leadership: Define technical direction aligned with strategy; design scalable, low-latency services; manage RFCs and ADRs; balance trade-offs for scalability vs. speed.
• Team Delivery: Mentor engineers, break down initiatives into workstreams, partner with Product Managers, facilitate Scrum ceremonies, and ensure operational readiness.
• Engineering Excellence: Improve reliability/security of the Payments Platform via automated testing, CI/CD, IaC, observability; drive incident response improvements.
• Individual Contribution: Build payment capabilities integrating providers like Adyen, Braintree, and PayPal; resolve complex technical problems directly.

What We Need:

• Strong track record in backend services/distributed systems.
• Distributed Systems Expertise: Microservices, event-driven architecture, data management, security, observability.
• Cloud-Native Engineering: CI/CD, IaC, automated testing practices.
• Hands-on IC capability with strong technical judgment for trade-offs.

Key Requirements:

• Experience with payment processing concepts (transaction lifecycles, idempotency, reconciliation).
• Modernization/migration of large-scale systems and AI-assisted engineering practices.
• Ability to work in distributed/asynchronous environments.
