Full Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automotive Android Audio Framework Engineer to join our team in Bangalore. You will play a critical role in the development, customization, integration, and debugging of the Android Audio Framework for production automotive infotainment systems.

About the Role

You will work across the entire Android audio software stack—from the AOSP Framework and Native components through to Audio HAL and underlying platform/DSP interfaces. The ideal candidate possesses strong hands-on experience with the AOSP Android Audio Framework, excellent C++ programming skills, and advanced system-level debugging capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, customize, and maintain Android Audio Framework components for Automotive Infotainment systems.
  • Work directly with AOSP source code to implement audio requirements at both Framework and Native layers.
  • Debug functionality involving AudioManager, AudioService, AudioFlinger, AudioPolicyManager, AudioTrack/Record, Focus Management, Routing, Attributes, Devices, and HAL.
  • Analyze and resolve complex issues across the Application Layer, Android Audio Framework, Native Audio, Audio HAL, and DSP/Hardware interfaces.
  • Implement features for audio focus, routing, volume control, ducking, muting, and stream-priority management while handling concurrent sources like Media, Navigation, Voice Assistants, Calls, and System Sounds.
  • Troubleshoot critical issues such as no-audio output, incorrect routing, interruptions, dropouts/glitches, latency problems, and volume inconsistencies.
  • Analyze audio behavior during boot sequences, shutdowns, suspend/resume cycles, and power-state transitions.
  • Collaborate closely with Audio HAL, BSP/DSP, and hardware teams to identify and resolve cross-layer integration issues.
  • Perform detailed root-cause analysis using logs (Logcat), traces, ADB commands, Dumpsys, Bugreport, GDB, and Linux debugging tools.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, integration efforts, and defect resolution workflows.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive unit tests and integration tests for Audio Framework functionality.
  • Support system validation and production releases while owning issues from reproduction through closure.

Tech Stack & Skills

Must-Haves:
- Deep expertise in Android Audio Framework / AOSP Audio.
- Proficiency with key components: AudioFlinger, AudioPolicy/Manager, AudioService, AudioManager, AudioFocus, Routing, Track/Record, Devices/HAL attributes.
- Strong C++ programming skills (OOP, Multithreading, Synchronization, IPC/Binder/Memory Management).
- Good working knowledge of Java.
- Solid understanding of Linux command-line tools, Git/Gerrit, AOSP architecture, Binder/IPC/AIDL, and build mechanisms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Automotive Infotainment Audio (strongly preferred).
  • Familiarity with Android Automotive OS (AAOS).
  • Knowledge of multi-zone audio, device switching, Bluetooth A2DP/HFP, USB integration, Amplifier/DSP/Codec integration.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for engineers who can navigate large codebases independently, trace issues from Framework to Hardware layers, and drive complex technical problems to resolution. You must be comfortable collaborating across all engineering domains (Framework, HAL, BSP, DSP, App, Validation) with a passion for Automotive Infotainment.
