Lead Data Engineer

Ramboll Tech is seeking a Lead Data Engineer in Chennai, TN, India, to join their Data Platform team. This role is crucial in building a scalable, flexible, and high-performing Azure-based data ecosystem to enhance data visibility, shareability, and usability across the organization, driving sustainable solutions. The ideal candidate will be skilled, self-sufficient, and capable of improving existing solutions and developing new approaches to data challenges. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and operating high-quality data flows on Azure for AI product creation and business initiatives, optimizing data solutions for automation, performance, and cost-efficiency, and collaborating with Data Architects on data models and storage strategies. The Lead Data Engineer will also work closely with Machine Learning teams to provide structured data, lead and mentor the Data Engineering team, ensure data governance and security, guide stakeholders on data best practices, and troubleshoot/monitor data infrastructure. The role emphasizes a proactive approach to shaping the position and contributing ideas. Success in this role requires a minimum of 5 years of data engineering experience, proficiency in Azure Data Services (Data Factory, SQL Database, Databricks, Data Lake Storage, Event Hubs/Stream Analytics), strong SQL and Python/Scala skills, experience with data modeling, DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC, Git), and data governance. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with a collaborative and empathetic attitude. Fluency in English is required, and local language proficiency is a plus.
