Lead Backend Engineer

Role Overview

We are hiring a hands-on Lead Backend Software Engineer to architect, develop, and scale our backend platform. This foundational role connects patients, healthcare workers, AI models, and clinical partners globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Engineering: Design scalable services, APIs, and data infrastructure for patient management, AI inference workflows, telemedicine operations, and clinical reporting using languages like Python, Node.js, or Java. Build integrations with EMRs/EHRs via FHIR and HL7 standards.
• Cloud & Security: Maintain SOC 2 compliant cloud infrastructure and implement HIPAA-compliant systems including encryption, access controls, and audit logging for PHI. Improve observability as the platform scales to millions of users.
• Technical Leadership: Define technical roadmaps with leadership, establish engineering standards, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovation in product and AI initiatives.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience in backend development and architectural decision-making. Strong proficiency in distributed systems design (microservices, databases, async workflows).
• Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party healthcare APIs and build secure data pipelines for clinical images and predictions.

Bonus: Experience with digital health platforms, offline-first mobile apps, AI model deployment infrastructure, or ISO 13485/IEC 62304 standards is highly preferred. Passion for social impact in underserved global populations required.
