Language Engineer

Description

The Amazon Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) Data Services organization is dedicated to creating diverse datasets for training and evaluating Amazon's AI models. We are seeking Language Engineers to join our science and engineering team. Your role will involve supporting the development of complex, multimodal datasets through various methods, including synthetic data generation, model-assisted data generation, and human-in-the-loop data collection. You will be instrumental in driving innovation and advancing the state-of-the-art in AI model evaluation and training, collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to ensure our AI systems are best in class.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Design and oversee complex data collection initiatives with human participants to address scientific requirements, including authoring instructions, defining quality targets, providing day-to-day coordination, and ensuring final deliverables.
• Design and execute complex data creation tasks using synthetic and model-based generation techniques, employing state-of-the-art approaches.
• Analyze and extract actionable insights from extensive datasets.
• Develop tools or prototypes for data analysis and creation using Python or other scripting languages.
• Utilize modeling tools to initiate or test new AI functionalities.
• Collaborate with scientists, software engineers, and other data creators to assess the performance of AI models.

Basic Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Computational Linguistics or a related field with a strong computational analysis focus.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in computational linguistics, language data processing, or AI data creation.
• Demonstrated experience with language data annotation systems and various data markup techniques.
• Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python.
• Experience working with speech, text, and multimodal data across multiple languages.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Comfort and adaptability in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and dynamic work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Computational Linguistics or an equivalent field with a significant computational emphasis.
• Expertise in developing AI data collection strategies for rapidly evolving requirements.
• Extensive experience handling speech, text, and multimodal data in numerous languages.
• Experience in creating data for intricate agentic workflows.
• Practical experience with Machine Learning concepts and applications.
• Familiarity with technical concepts, including Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
• Practical knowledge of version control systems and agile development methodologies.
• Familiarity with database querying and data analysis processes using tools like SQL, R, or Matlab.
• Flexibility to support multiple projects concurrently and adapt to reprioritization.
• Strong creative thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
