Junior Software Engineer

About the Job: Build an AI-Native Company

We are one of Swiss Founders Fund's fast-growing portfolio ventures hiring a Junior Software Engineer to join our founding engineering team. We are building an AI-native product and preparing for our Y Combinator application.

The Role

• Build and ship core features from problem definition through implementation, testing, and release.
• Develop APIs, backend services, database integrations, and user-facing functionality.
• Integrate AI models and third-party services with a focus on reliability.
• Investigate bugs, improve performance, and ensure scalability for growing usage.

Your Responsibilities

You will write clear, maintainable code using tests to reduce risk. You'll work directly with founders to make practical technical decisions, communicate progress clearly in English, flag blockers early, and deliver reliably without constant supervision.

What We're Looking For

• Evidence that you can build: Created working software; explain your contribution and choices.
• Strong fundamentals: Understand APIs, databases, debugging, version control, and web architecture.
• Depth in one language/framework: Move beyond tutorials to learn necessary tools quickly.
• Independent problem-solving: Break down unfamiliar problems and make progress.
• Fast, thoughtful learning: Seek feedback and understand the 'why' behind solutions.
• Practical judgment: Balance code quality with shipping speed.

Nice to Have

Experience building with LLM APIs, deploying applications used by others, familiarity with cloud infrastructure/security, or previous work in a small startup team. If using AI coding tools, you must be able to review and debug the output responsibly.
