Junior Software Engineer

SmartBear is seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our team in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. This role will focus on developing new and enhancing existing products and services, with a strong emphasis on Agentic AI offerings within SmartBear's core domains: API Design and Management, Testing, and Observability. You will play a key role in building AI and MCP-style workflows that leverage and extend our current product suite.

Key responsibilities include rapidly validating the feasibility of new use cases derived from research ideas, maintaining a keen focus on the end-user product experience, and making informed trade-offs in system implementation. You will conduct code reviews across the full stack, upholding high engineering standards within a collaborative team environment. This role requires delivering working code on schedule and taking ownership of the post-production experience, including measuring success and iterating on technical designs to optimize product performance.

We are looking for candidates with 2-4 years of experience in Python, exposure to backend frameworks like Flask or FastAPI, and a strong interest or existing knowledge of LLM or agent-based systems (e.g., LangChain/LangGraph). Experience with Docker, AWS deployment, and GitHub for version control is essential. A foundational understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, client/server architecture, and modern API concepts (including MCP) is required, with familiarity in NoSQL or vector databases being a significant advantage. Full-stack development experience, particularly with RESTful backend services and TypeScript/JavaScript frontends, is highly desirable. You should be adept at completing development tasks within a team, including feature implementation, bug fixing, and writing tests. The ability to work from defined requirements, ask clarifying questions, and break down complex problems into manageable steps is crucial, along with growing comfort in handling moderately ambiguous tasks. Excellent English communication skills are also a requirement.
