Java Developer

About the Role:

Morgan Stanley is at the forefront of building sophisticated financial software designed to tackle complex global financial challenges. Our work involves creating innovative solutions for customized direct index exposure, emphasizing tax-sensitive asset selection to maximize after-tax portfolio returns. We engineer and deploy financial software that governs the entire account lifecycle, from client onboarding and management of all client activities and investment instructions, to the large-scale management of equity investment accounts.

This senior role offers the opportunity to provide direct technical leadership, managing and mentoring a team of developers. You will be instrumental in designing and developing proprietary solutions for our Equity Direct Indexing portfolio management teams. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and maintaining robust services and APIs to support diverse business needs. A key aspect of this role is leveraging scalable and distributed computing principles to build the next generation of financial services, ensuring solutions are integrated, efficient, and compliant with the stringent regulations of the financial industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership and directly manage a team of developers, guiding and mentoring them.
• Design and develop proprietary solutions for Equity Direct Indexing portfolio management.
• Design, develop, and maintain services and APIs for various business requirements.
• Apply scalable and distributed computing principles for next-generation service development.
• Ensure software solutions are integrated, efficient, and compliant within a highly regulated industry.
• Create comprehensive unit, integration, functional, and performance tests.
• Conduct code reviews for other developers.
• Share expertise, knowledge, and ideas to enhance team processes and productivity.

Technical Skills:

• Software design, development, Java, J2EE, SQL, and NoSQL.
• Strong aptitude for highly efficient data structures and algorithms.
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• Working knowledge of NoSQL database engines (e.g., Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
• Experience with Kotlin and React is beneficial.
• Cloud-native development experience, with a preference for AWS, and a proven track record in developing highly scalable cloud solutions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in large-scale software development and deployment.
• 7+ years of hands-on Java/J2EE software design and development experience.
• Proven track record of becoming a subject matter expert in relevant areas.
