What are Aladdin and Aladdin Engineering?

You will contribute to the development of BlackRock's investment operating system, Aladdin. Aladdin is utilized both internally by BlackRock and externally by numerous financial institutions. It integrates advanced risk analytics with comprehensive portfolio management, trading, and operations tools on a unified platform, enabling informed decision-making and connecting thousands of users worldwide.

Our development teams are part of the Aladdin Engineering group, collaboratively building the future of technology that transforms how information, people, and technology intersect for global investment firms. We create and package tools that manage trillions in assets and support millions of financial instruments, performing risk calculations and processing millions of transactions daily for users globally.

Responsibilities Include:

• Collaborate effectively across multi-office, multi-country teams.
• Deliver high-efficiency, high-availability, concurrent, and fault-tolerant software systems.
• Contribute significantly to the development of Aladdin’s global, multi-asset trading platform.
• Partner with product management and business stakeholders to shape the product roadmap.
• Design and implement innovative solutions for complex problems, proactively identifying and addressing issues.
• Apply robust software engineering practices throughout the development lifecycle.
• Ensure system resilience and stability through rigorous code reviews, unit testing, regression testing, UAT, DevOps practices, and L2 production support.
• Lead with vision, driving team productivity and efficiency while mentoring others.
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using Agile methodologies.

Qualifications:

• B.E./B.TECH./MCA or equivalent engineering degree from a reputed university.
• 3-6 years of proven experience in this domain.

Skills and Experience:

• Solid foundation in core Java and related technologies, with strong OO skills and design patterns.
• Proven track record in building high-quality software using design-focused and test-driven approaches.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming with Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
• Experience building microservices and APIs using REST, Kafka, or gRPC.
• Strong knowledge of the Open-Source technology stack (Spring, Maven, JUnit, etc.).
• Experience with relational databases and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., Apache Cassandra, Hadoop, Snowflake).
• Strong knowledge of building data pipelines using Spark, Scala, Python.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with DevOps and tools like Azure DevOps.
• Interest in finance, investment processes, or the ability to translate business problems into technical solutions.
• Experience in the design and technical quality of significant applications, systems, or components.
• Ability to build positive relationships with partnering teams, sponsors, and user groups.
• Experience with high-scale distributed technologies like Kafka, Ignite, and Redis.

Nice to Have and Opportunities to Learn:

• Experience in an agile development team or open-source development projects.
• Experience with optimization, algorithms, or related quantitative processes.
• Experience with Python development.
• Experience with AI-related projects/products or working in an AI research environment.
• A degree, certifications, or open-source track record demonstrating mastery of software engineering principles.
• Exposure to AI tools and building agents for business and analytical use cases.
