GIS Data Engineer

HERE Technologies is seeking a skilled GIS Data Engineer to join our team in Mumbai, India. In this role, you will be an Individual Contributor with technical project ownership, responsible for solving complex problems and driving innovation in spatial data processing.

You will have end-to-end responsibility for critical modules within attributes processing, including Access characteristics, TBT, Postal codes, Admin Boundaries, and Built Up Areas. Your primary responsibilities will involve building and maintaining automated spatial data pipelines. This includes designing, developing, and optimizing robust data engineering pipelines that transform and integrate various spatial and non-spatial data sources into HERE's map databases and downstream products.

Operational excellence and data quality are paramount. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve data conversion processes, bulk updates, and system performance. Implementing checks, alerts, and metrics to enhance data quality and operational reliability is key. You will also establish reusable patterns, ensure code quality, develop validation frameworks, and define operational practices.

The ideal candidate will possess a Post Graduate or Graduate degree in computer science, geodesy, geography, or a related field, with 2-5 years of relevant work experience. Proficiency in GIS, FME, Python, SQL, and PostGIS is mandatory. Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS & FME, or similar spatial tools, along with strong technical ownership, project execution, and analytical/problem-solving skills are essential. Experience with data integration across databases and APIs (Oracle, PostGIS, file geodatabases) and a solid understanding of engineering best practices (Git/GitLab, CI/CD, code reviews, documentation) are required. A quality and observability mindset (validation, monitoring, KPIs) and excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills are also highly valued.
