The General Manager will be instrumental in driving hotel profitability through strategic revenue generation, rigorous cost control, and an unwavering commitment to exceptional guest satisfaction. This position also emphasizes the critical development of employees and the meticulous maintenance of the hotel's esteemed reputation and operational integrity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Daily operational oversight of all departments, implementing immediate adjustments through department heads to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conducting weekly staff meetings that incorporate training sessions led by managers and self, adhering to Highgate Hotel standards for effective training, and reviewing past and future sales and operational efforts.
  • Ensuring timely adherence to all financial review dates and corporate-directed programs.
  • Facilitating monthly financial reviews with all department managers, M.I.D.'s, and available supervisors.
  • Verifying that all department heads maintain budgeted productivity levels and comply with Highgate Hotel standard checkbook accounting procedures.
  • Developing management talent for future advancement through competency training and corporate-sponsored programs.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Sales to conduct daily HHBR meetings focused on prospecting and existing account calls and their potential business impact.
  • Playing a significant role in hotel sales initiatives, including direct engagement with top accounts, client meetings, hosting events, and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly contact with on-site stakeholders.
  • Fulfilling scheduled M.O.D. (Manager on Duty) coverage responsibilities.
  • Maintaining direct contact with and monitoring the development of management trainees.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to all Highgate Hotel policies and procedures, and training new managers on these standards.
  • Assisting in the Highgate Hotel budget process as required.
  • Overseeing and ensuring effective training in service standards across all departments, utilizing Highgate Hotel's steps to effective training and the weekly 'Garden Standard of the Week' training.
  • Cultivating a positive, team-oriented environment focused on guest satisfaction through employee development and motivation.
  • Conducting regular room inspections (weekly minimum) with the Housekeeping Manager and Property Engineer.
  • Ensuring daily processing of invoices through the A/P process.
  • Guaranteeing timely submission of all required financial document information to the Corporate Office monthly, in compliance with the accounting calendar.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the physical property through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with department managers.
  • Ensuring all employees consistently provide attentive, friendly, courteous, and efficient service to guests, managers, and colleagues.
  • Forecasting the hotel's monthly financial position by estimating revenues and line-item expenses, and analyzing data for accurate reforecasting.
  • Preparing and conducting all management interviews, adhering to Highgate Hotel S.O.P.'s for hiring procedures, and ensuring managers follow these standards for their staff.
  • Interviewing all final candidates for vacant management positions before extending offers.
  • Performing performance appraisals for Executive Committee members per Highgate Hotel S.O.P.'s and ensuring managers apply these standards to their staff.
  • Motivating, coaching, counseling, and disciplining management personnel according to Highgate Hotel S.O.P.'s and ensuring managers follow these standards for their staff.
  • Performing other duties as requested by the Vice President or Regional Director of Operations.
  • Ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all employees in accordance with Highgate Hotel S.O.P.'s.
  • Meeting with clients on property, including potential clients touring the facility, to support sales efforts.
  • Being present in public areas during peak times to greet guests and offer assistance.
  • Ensuring adherence to hotel safe procedures, including security protocols and monthly safe audits.
  • Ensuring monthly credit meetings are conducted and actively participating in the hotel's credit and collection policies.
  • Completing required corporate training modules and obtaining certification to train others.
  • Ensuring all scheduled meetings are conducted on the property.
