Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Frontend Architect (Senior Software Engineer) to join their dynamic team in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This role is within the Informatics & Connected Worksite - CAT IT Team and emphasizes a builder's mindset, strong design sensibility, and deep technical expertise within an agile environment.

Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Frontend Architect, you will be instrumental in leading architectural decisions, mentoring teams, and driving the development of modern, responsive, and secure web applications. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading cross-functional discussions to align product and technology strategies.
- Defining and enforcing high standards for software quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Architecting and implementing scalable frontend solutions using contemporary frameworks and tools.
- Developing proof-of-concepts and evaluating emerging technologies to guide technical direction.
- Collaborating with product, design, and backend teams to deliver integrated digital experiences.
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
- Driving continuous improvement in development practices, tooling, and automation.
- Participating in Agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.
- Contributing to the hiring and onboarding of senior engineering talent.
- Fostering a culture of innovation, craftsmanship, and knowledge sharing.
Leadership & Strategic Impact
- Serving as a domain expert and advisor to product and engineering leadership.
- Ensuring architectural alignment across business units and influencing the long-term technology vision.
- Supporting strategic hiring initiatives and coaching senior engineers in their professional growth.
- Staying abreast of industry trends and introducing innovative ideas.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: 9+ years of experience in frontend application development, with a proven history of delivering scalable, high-performance enterprise applications.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in React, Angular, or Next.js (App Router).
- Expert-level JavaScript knowledge for debugging complex issues and guiding teams.
- Strong command of TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, ES6, and Web Components.
- Deep understanding of frontend architecture, design patterns, and interaction design principles.
- Experience with SSR/CSR rendering strategies and modern frontend tooling (bundlers, linters, etc.).
- Solid grasp of TDD/BDD practices using frameworks like Jest, Jasmine, or Vitest.
- Familiarity with web security best practices and OWASP guidelines.
- Experience with responsive design and CSS preprocessors (e.g., SASS).
- Experience with E2E testing tools like Cypress or Playwright.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (S3, ECS, CloudFront, Lambda, API Gateway, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of Docker and containerization.
- Experience with state management using Redux, NgRx, or Redux Toolkit.
- Proficiency in performance profiling and optimization techniques.
- Good-to-Have Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Advanced cloud monitoring and debugging.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
- Soft Skills:
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze situations and make informed decisions.
- Effective Communications: Skill in transmitting, receiving, and interpreting ideas and information effectively.
- Software Development: Extensive experience in software product development and toolkits.
- Software Development Life Cycle: Working knowledge of structured methodologies for delivering software products.
- Software Integration Engineering: Experience designing and developing software interfaces.
- Software Product Design/Architecture: Extensive experience in architecture and design of software products.
- Software Product Testing: Working knowledge of software product testing strategies and tactics.
Work Schedule and Location
- Preference for candidates based in Chennai - Brigade World Trade Center or Bangalore PSN office, India.
- Willingness to work in EAME Shift (1 PM to 10 PM IST).
- This position requires working onsite five days a week.
