BP Technical Solutions India (TSI) in Pune is seeking a Floating Systems Engineer to provide essential field expertise for operations, brownfield projects, and life extension initiatives. This role involves proactively collaborating with various teams and contractors to systematically address technical challenges, applying sound engineering judgment to deliver integrated, pragmatic solutions for risk management, project delivery, operational efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization.

The Floating Systems Engineer will be based in Pune, India, and will be responsible for making fit-for-purpose recommendations for operations, including the scoping of inspections, repairs, and fabric maintenance. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills are crucial for effectively conveying technical outcomes and ensuring engineering risks are understood, controlled, and reduced across the business to achieve safe, reliable, and cost-effective results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as an asset-responsible floating system integrity engineer within the central Civil & Structural (C&S) team, deployed to BP’s Gulf of America floating system integrity squad.
  • Ensure the integrity and maintenance of operating assets to meet the company’s safety and business goals.
  • Be an integral part of the Gulf of America integrity management team.
  • Deliver regional floating systems and structural integrity management plans for supported assets in accordance with company guidance and industry codes.
  • Oversee asset floating systems and structural inspection scoping, monitoring, and maintenance strategies to assess facility condition.
  • Manage the floating systems and structural performance standards of supported facilities, evaluating current condition against these standards.
  • Report significant structural deterioration or deviations from performance standards using the company's Anomaly Assessment and Tracking tool, communicating risks appropriately through operational dashboards and risk assurance processes.
  • Support severe weather evacuation preparation and post-event inspections, and monitor platform performance using marine monitoring systems.
  • Define engineering scope of work for floating systems and structural aspects of new construction, modifications, and life extension projects, with a focus on topside structural work.
  • Provide technical assurance for third-party engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry codes, company technical practices, and performance standards.
  • Maintain relationships with third-party providers and contractors.
  • Assess the impact of significant weight and metocean changes on operating assets.
  • Deliver fit-for-purpose solutions considering operational constraints and asset conditions.
  • Actively contribute to the floating systems Community of Practice by sharing best practices and insights.
  • Support Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in developing and maintaining company engineering technical practices.
  • Address lessons learned in collaboration with SMEs.
  • Drive efforts to understand, control, and reduce floating systems risks across the business, ensuring clear communication of these risks to stakeholders.

People and Business Responsibilities:

  • Provide visible safety leadership in line with BP safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules, and process safety fundamentals.
  • Record and escalate relevant lessons learned in the BP shared learning system.
  • Support performance management by implementing, measuring, and analyzing KPIs for continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in civil/structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely aligned field.
  • Certifications: Chartered engineer, professional engineer, or near chartered/professional status, or evidence of progression towards full chartered/professional status.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of proven experience.
  • Key Skills:
    • Knowledge of discipline-related industry standards (API RP 2FPS, 2SK, 2TOP, 2A-WSD, AISC WSD, and ISO 19900/19904 series) and class codes (ABS, DNV, or BV).
    • Proven industry experience in semi and FPSO topside design, construction, installation, and integrity management.
    • Experience in nonlinear finite element analysis, hot spot stress calculations, and spectral fatigue analyses for topside structures.
    • Strong people leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries.
    • Clear and succinct verbal and written communication abilities.
    • Fluent in English, both written and oral.
    • Highly motivated and a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate qualification in civil/structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely aligned field.
  • Experience in management of change, risk assessment, performance management, and maintenance and repair strategies.
  • Experience applying risk-based methodology for platform inspection and anomaly management.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other central field engineering teams, regional IM Teams, regional and central IM execution teams, regional facility supports squads, operations teams, projects delivery leads, maintenance teams within bpTSI and Regions, and external vendors and contractors.
