Engineering Manager

Responsibilities:

• Delivery and execution: Ensure sprint health, scope discipline, and predictable delivery. Intervene early and specifically like an operator.
• Engineering excellence: Maintain a high quality bar through code review, test coverage, observability, on-call health, and incident response. Review your team's PRs personally.
• Technical leadership: Drive design reviews based on merits across database choices, idempotency, rate limits, etc., within a Java and Python-based stack using Kafka, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Temporal, and Snowflake.
• AI leverage: Use AI as a core operating practice to multiply team output. Raise the team's AI bar in development, review, and instrumentation.
• Product partnership: Partner with Product as a peer by cross-questioning briefs, asking what drives metrics, and determining what to instrument before building.
• People leadership: Conduct 1:1s focused on growth and performance. Handle hiring while reading between the lines to name root causes and treating engineers with dignity.

Requirements:

• 8-10 years of engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineers as an Engineering Manager (EM) / Senior EM or equivalent.
• Hands-on depth in Java (primary) and/or Python. Experience with distributed systems (Kafka, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Temporal) and cloud platforms (AWS, Kubernetes).
• A current, demonstrable AI-assisted development practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A proven track record of hiring and growing engineers.
