Engineer - Platform Planning & Design

Tata Communications is seeking an Engineer to join their team in Chennai, India, focusing on Platform Planning & Design. This role is responsible for the strategic planning and design of telecommunications infrastructure and network components. You will analyze short-term and long-term network capacity needs for current and future requirements, including technology and network planning across multiple layers and the introduction of new technologies for new services or improved network efficiency.

Key responsibilities include designing network architecture and performing technical analysis of software, hardware, and network systems. You will be involved in systems engineering for front-end processors, multiplexes, LAN/WAN communications, network nodes, switches, and various transmission systems. The role requires analysis of traffic flows and trends, route planning, network optimization, routing solutions, and traffic forecasting.

Furthermore, you will perform integration with existing systems and conduct service validation before handover to the Service Operations team. A strong understanding of IP routers, switches, fiber optic connections, microwave wireless transmission, 2G/3G/4G, DSL, and radio frequency systems is essential. This function engages with Line of Business (LOB) and Product Teams to understand market forecasts and trends, and collaborates with relevant teams and vendors to discuss solutions, cost estimates, and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) optimization initiatives. Equipment planning via Request for Proposal (RFP) and collaboration with the commercial team are also key aspects of this role.

The role operates under broad instruction, contributing proactively to important projects and identifying potential issues or risks. You will seek appropriate guidance to ensure quality outcomes and deliver results directly impacting Platform Planning and Design. While working under direct supervision, you are expected to identify problems and provide input for improvements to existing methods and techniques. Continuous learning and acquisition of complex skills and knowledge within your specialization are encouraged to effectively handle unfamiliar challenges.

Minimum qualification & experience: Engineer with 0-4 years of experience.
