About the Role

As a Software Engineer 3, you will build robust backend systems from concept to completion. You will collaborate effectively with diverse teams to create exceptional products and drive innovation and process improvement. At PayPal, Backend Software Engineers are the architects of our global payment platform, designing, developing, and optimizing core systems that power millions of transactions daily, directly impacting our customers' experiences and our company's success.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.
• Optimize system performance and reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers.

What You Need to Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 3-5 years of backend development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Ruby on Rails).
• Advanced proficiency in backend development with Java EE frameworks, including experience with Spring MVC or Hibernate.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful services, focusing on scalability and reliability, using Java.
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews and design discussions.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and strong understanding of database design, including ORM tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale, high-performance systems.
• Knowledge of the payment processing industry and relevant regulations.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
