The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Applications Development Engineer specializing in SAP MDG to join our team in Pune. This role is crucial for implementing tactical and operational goals focused on software build, release, deployment, and configuration management, ensuring seamless application delivery. You will contribute to the implementation of new automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, testing methodologies, and deployment standards. The position involves managing software deployment projects and operational processes, coordinating release schedules, dependency tracking, and integration workflows. You will tackle diverse, multifaceted challenges requiring analysis of software performance, system compatibility, and implementation risks, deriving solutions based on limited precedent and applying best practices in release engineering, infrastructure automation, and software quality assurance to maintain stability and efficiency. Regular communication with internal stakeholders (development, QA, IT operations, product teams) and external vendors/cloud service providers is essential for timely implementation and support. This role will specifically support the growing needs of MDG implementations, including integrations with SAP TMS, Product Compliance, and preparing for the S/4 journey.

What We're Looking For

Education

Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, information systems, industrial engineering, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in SAP MDG on S/4.
• At least 2 end-to-end implementation cycle experiences with configuring SAP MDG.
• Ability to work on Master Data Consolidation (MDC) and Data Quality Management (DQM).
• Experience managing or executing data cleansing, data mapping, and data governance areas, preferably in an SAP environment.
• Experience with integration across complex ERP landscapes and interfacing SAP with legacy systems.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with business analysts and system analysts.
• Ability to comprehend business needs and concerns and integrate that understanding into design and implementation.

Who You Are

• Provides configuration and development of MDG for all necessary processes for successful implementation and support.
• Possesses a strategic vision for SAP MDG implementation with a thorough understanding of dependencies and impacts on other enterprise initiatives.
• Reviews and provides key inputs to SAP MDG Project Plans and detailed tasks.
• Offers expertise on SAP best practices and makes sound solution recommendations considering scope, requirements, and analysis.
• Collaborates with Process Leads and Data Leads from clients, third-party system integrators, and SAP for the successful completion of joint project responsibilities.
• Supports and provides input to MDG Team Members in developing processes for Data Cleansing, Data Migration, and MDG integration of MDG Data Objects including Material, Business Partner (Customer, Vendor, etc.), and MDG Financial Objects.
• Accountable for SAP MDG-related deliverables, focusing on quality and on-time delivery within agreed estimations.
• Works with respective team members and/or management to deliver solutions according to requirements defined and prioritized by Avantor business.
• Participates in projects, performing design, build, implementation, unit tests, and code reviews.
• Translates functional requirements into conceptual and detailed designs; provides estimates for development effort; implements proof of concept, prototypes, and production-grade software; writes unit tests; fully documents code; and coordinates with QA/Test for testing requirements.
• As needed and according to agile development methodologies, participates in iterative development, including sprint planning, daily scrums, release, and retrospective meetings.

How You Will Create an Impact

• Experience in design, coding, and implementing SAP MDG for FINANCE, VENDOR, CUSTOMER, & MATERIAL.
• Experience with MDG UI configuration, standard data model/entity type enhancement, custom data model creation, FPM UI enhancement, context-based adaptation, customizing, and configuration.
• Ability to work on the migration of existing master data into an MDG hub, validations, and derivations using BADIs and BRF+.
• Experience working with the data replication framework (DRF), data import using DIF, SOA services, ALE configuration, key & value mapping, and integrating MDG.
• Experience in ABAP Object-Oriented Programming, ABAP Floor Plan Manager (FPM), and ABAP Web Dynpro.
• Experience with performance tuning (front-end/back-end).
• Experience working in an agile development process.
• Supports business requests, ensuring the organization adopts common approaches for global perspectives and integrated systems.
• Works flexibly to successfully handle multiple issues and tasks, completing them on time and within budget while exceeding expectations.
• Requires a complete understanding of SAP Master Data, systems validation concepts, change control procedures, and full knowledge of both configuration and customization standards.
