Full Job Description
Novotel Bengaluru Outer Ring Road, situated in the heart of Bengaluru's IT corridor, seeks a skilled Duty Engineer to join its operations team. This role is crucial for maintaining the hotel's infrastructure and ensuring guest satisfaction. The Duty Engineer will be responsible for the daily operational checks and upkeep of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, and other engineering systems. Key responsibilities include responding to maintenance requests, troubleshooting and repairing various equipment, ensuring the proper functioning of emergency systems, and monitoring the Building Management System (BMS). The position also involves ensuring compliance with safety and statutory standards, coordinating with vendors, and providing technical support to various hotel departments. Additionally, the role will focus on energy management by monitoring consumption and suggesting conservation improvements. The Duty Engineer will also mentor junior technicians and assist the Chief Engineer. This is a permanent position requiring 2-4 years of experience in hotel engineering or facility maintenance, with a Diploma or ITI in a relevant field. Strong technical troubleshooting skills, knowledge of MEP and HVAC systems, and good communication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical
- Perform daily rounds to check the functioning of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, and other engineering systems.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and breakdown calls from all departments.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as pumps, AHUs, FCUs, exhaust fans, chillers, boilers, and kitchen/laundry machinery.
- Ensure proper operation of emergency systems: fire alarm, sprinkler system, fire pumps, emergency lights, and generators.
- Monitor BMS (Building Management System) and rectify alarms immediately.
- Conduct preventive maintenance as per schedule and update records.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with statutory and safety standards (fire safety, electrical safety, water quality, STP/RO plant guidelines).
- Maintain the logbooks for utility readings, equipment performance, and daily engineering activities.
- Support in conducting safety drills and risk assessments.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with vendors/contractors for repairs, AMC services, and inspections.
- Provide technical support to housekeeping, front office, F&B, and other departments.
- Handle guest room maintenance issues with professionalism and minimal disruption.
Energy Management
- Monitor and manage consumption of electricity, water, diesel, and gas.
- Suggest improvements for energy conservation and equipment efficiency.
Other Responsibilities
- Train junior technicians on operating procedures and safety practices.
- Assist the Chief Engineer during emergencies, audits, and major repairs.
- Maintain tools, workshop cleanliness, and engineering inventory.
Qualifications
- Diploma/ITI in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field
- 2-4 years of experience in hotel engineering or facility maintenance
