About The Role

We are seeking a Distinguished Engineer to pioneer and scale autonomous, agentic SDLC capabilities across GitLab. As one of our most senior technical leaders, you will immerse yourself in our product and engineering workflows to identify problems solvable by AI agents, validate them through rigorous experimentation, and codify patterns for millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Define a company-wide vision for autonomous SDLC aligned with GitLab's strategy.<\/li>
• Prioritize non-linear productivity opportunities across the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), targeting 10x improvements.<\/li>
• Translate complex problem spaces into actionable roadmaps with Product, AI\/ML, and Architecture teams.<\/li>
• Lead hands-on experiments to validate agentic workflows in autonomous MR authoring, test creation, security remediation, release readiness, and incident response.<\/li>
• Design reference architectures for agentic SDLC inside GitLab, including orchestration patterns, safety guardrails, observability, and human-in-the-loop controls.<\/li>
• Implement evaluation frameworks to measure correctness, latency, safety, cost, and productivity impact of AI agents.<\/li>
• Select high-impact internal use cases as pathfinders for measurable productivity gains.<\/li>
• Mentor Principal and Staff Engineers on technical execution and cross-team collaboration.<\/li>
• Create clear design documents and decision records to enable independent, aligned decisions.<\/li>
