DevOps Engineer II

Wood Mackenzie seeks a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) II to join our dynamic global business in Gurugram, India, driving change and innovation. This role is pivotal in managing and supporting our enterprise products and services.

Role Purpose:

As an SRE II, you will leverage your operational expertise to partner with software engineering teams, focusing on releasing and maintaining applications. This includes:

• Collaborating with business and technology teams to identify operational constraints and opportunities for cloud-based and on-premises deployments.
• Implementing and maintaining complex cloud and on-premises resources and environments.
• Promoting mutual feedback within cross-functional groups, adhering to SRE best practices within a DevOps culture.
• Implementing advanced continuous integration/delivery toolsets and supporting platforms.
• Ensuring strong service availability and proactively detecting issues.
• Articulating technical and business concepts to diverse audiences and influencing technical decisions through data and proof of concepts.

Responsibilities:

• Advanced Pipeline Implementation and Optimization: Develop, implement, and maintain efficient and scalable delivery pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, and GitHub Actions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Operational Insights: Provide advanced solutions for operational excellence by identifying constraints and opportunities in areas like auto-scaling, container orchestration, and system resiliency.
• Proactive Monitoring: Develop predictive monitoring solutions and analyze data to identify trends and improvements.
• Tooling Innovation: Drive innovation in team tooling and processes, evaluating industry tools for suitability.
• Operational Leadership: Mentor Level 1 engineers and lead operational improvements.
• Continuous Improvement: Regularly review operational processes for inefficiencies and propose actionable enhancements.
• Incident Management: Lead incident response efforts (P3 and P4), conduct post-incident reviews, and actively troubleshoot active incidents.
• Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain thorough documentation and foster a culture of knowledge sharing.
• On-Call Rotation: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure continuous system availability and performance.

Qualifications:

We value transferrable knowledge and a willingness to learn. Preferred technologies include:

• Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years in SRE/DevOps roles.
• Leadership in Agile: Experience leading agile processes, supporting product releases, and providing monitoring insights.
• Advanced Cloud Skills: Strong understanding of AWS (Cloud Practitioner or equivalent) and working knowledge of Azure (AZ-900 or equivalent).
• DevOps Mindset: Proficient in DevOps principles (CI/CD, IaC), agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum), and JIRA.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams with effective communication skills.
• Resource Maintenance: Experience developing and overseeing system maintenance tasks like patch management, backups, and performance tuning.
• Advanced Linux Skills: Proficient in Linux administration (RHEL/Ubuntu) and automation.
• Automation Expertise: Expertise with configuration management tools such as Ansible or SaltStack.
• Mentorship: Ability to mentor SRE Is.

Additional Preferred Skills:

• Extensive AWS and Azure experience.
• Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• Deep understanding of CI/CD principles.
• Proficiency with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk, CloudWatch).
• Basic understanding of networking concepts.
• Familiarity with security best practices and compliance frameworks (SOX, SOC II, NIST).
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Enterprise SaaS applications (Okta, Jira, Confluence).
• Experience with collaboration tools (Git, GitHub, Confluence).
