About the Role

Join Amazon Alliance as a Data Scientist II on the AOP Team in Hyderabad/Secunderabad, Telangana, India, and leverage your strong quantitative analysis and big data skills to tackle world-changing problems. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about driving the development of methods, models, and systems for capacity planning, transportation, and fulfillment networks.

Our team is at the forefront of creating core analytics tech capabilities, platform development, and data engineering. We build scalable analytics applications and research modeling techniques to optimize operational processes. We standardize and optimize data sources, enhance visualization efforts across global geographies, and maintain online BI services and data marts. You will collaborate with a talented team of software development managers, data engineers, scientists, business intelligence engineers, and product managers, employing rigorous quantitative approaches to deliver high-quality data tech products for customers worldwide, including regions like India, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, and the Middle East.

Amazon's rapid growth, driven by a commitment to faster customer delivery, a more efficient supply chain network, and lower operational costs, places a strategic focus on developing advanced models and automation tools fueled by vast amounts of data. In this position, you will be instrumental in building these models and tools to enhance the economics of Amazon's global fulfillment networks, particularly in emerging markets. Your work will directly contribute to increasing delivery speed and reducing costs for customers. You will identify and assess opportunities to decrease variable costs by optimizing fulfillment center processes, transportation operations, scheduling, and the execution of operational plans. Furthermore, you will improve capital investment efficiency by assisting fulfillment centers in optimizing storage utilization and the effective deployment of automation. Ultimately, you will help establish key metrics to quantify the improvements in fulfillment costs, such as transportation and labor, resulting from the application of these optimization models and tools.

  • Ensure high data quality throughout the entire data lifecycle, from acquisition and processing to sourcing, collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, and cross-lingual alignment.
  • Clearly communicate proposals and findings, supported by data, with actionable conclusions to guide critical business decisions.
  • Foster collaboration with colleagues from diverse scientific, engineering, and business backgrounds.
  • Develop and maintain efficient data querying and modeling infrastructure.
  • Independently manage your workflow, prioritize high-impact projects, triage incoming requests, and ensure timely project delivery.
  • Utilize programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala for data analysis and statistical model development.

Basic Qualifications

  • Over 3 years of experience working with data querying languages (e.g., SQL), scripting languages (e.g., Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab).
  • More than 3 years of experience in machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, including an understanding of the parameters that influence their performance.
  • Proven experience applying theoretical models in a practical, applied environment.
