Full Job Description
Join PayPal's Resolutions and Protections team as a Data Scientist in Bengaluru, India, and play a pivotal role in improving PayPal's margin through the reduction of loss and operational expenses (Opex). This position drives high-criticality initiatives focused on delivering best-in-class dispute management capabilities for our customers while simultaneously optimizing PayPal's costs and minimizing losses. You will collaborate extensively with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Business teams to implement impactful solutions and understand evolving business and customer needs.
About the Team
The Customer Protections team is fundamental to PayPal's core value proposition. Our Buyer Protection Program ensures buyers receive reimbursements for product issues, while the Seller Protection program safeguards online businesses against fraud and abuse. The Resolutions platform prioritizes the customer experience for resolving fraud-related issues and provides fair, user-friendly mediation for disputes between buyers and sellers. We are an end-to-end team of approximately 30 professionals, including Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Data Analysts, with members based in San Jose, Bangalore, Chennai, and Dublin.

Essential qualities include strong intellectual curiosity, a comprehensive understanding of PayPal's products and associated typologies, and experience with PayPal's data systems. Proficiency in problem-solving, rigorous data analysis, and the ability to distill complex, voluminous data into clear, concise insights are critical for this role.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Extract and process structured and unstructured data using tools such as SQL and Python.
- Collaborate with operations teams to gather feedback on dispute resolution processes and enhance process efficiency.
- Develop and validate hypotheses to optimize PayPal's operational costs while improving consumer and merchant experiences.
- Partner with teams including Modeling, Product, and Engineering.
- Support ad hoc analysis requests from stakeholders regarding dispute trends or risk mitigation strategies.
What You Need to Bring
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in Analytics, Data Science, or similar roles.
- Proven experience with data preparation and analysis of large datasets using SQL and Microsoft Excel.
- A passion for generating data-driven insights to solve business challenges.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Python and Tableau.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- A background in fraud, credit, risk management, or statistics is considered a plus.
Education Qualifications (Must Have)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics from a Tier 1 college.
