Media.net, a prominent global ad tech company, seeks a Data Scientist 2 in Bengaluru/Bangalore, India. Join our Data Science team, which is integral to our operations, utilizing advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, including deep learning, large-scale distributed computing, mathematics, economics, and auction theory to build impactful solutions. Our goal is to optimize ad targeting for maximum revenue for our customers and Media.net.

Key Challenges You'll Tackle:

• Developing information retrieval and machine learning models to estimate click-through rates and revenue, considering factors like slot position, user device, location, and page content, and scaling these models across thousands of domains and millions of URLs.
• Matching ads to page views using contextual information and designing learning mechanisms to continuously adapt from user feedback (clicks, conversions).
• Addressing challenges with extremely sparse data, handling new ads and pages, designing effective explore-exploit frameworks, and developing fast, scalable learning algorithms.
• Integrating contextual targeting with behavioral user-based targeting.
• Establishing unique user identities from multiple noisy signals to ensure accurate behavioral targeting.
• Applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) to identify broader trends based on page content and ads.

Your Contributions and Growth:

• Understand business needs, analyze data, and extract relevant information from historical datasets.
• Apply expertise in Information Retrieval, NLP, and Machine Learning (including Deep Learning) to develop prototype solutions focused on scale, speed, and accuracy.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement prototypes and define appropriate model performance metrics and reporting.
• Partner with engineering to identify areas for improvement, co-develop a research agenda, and execute using cutting-edge algorithms and tools.
• Demonstrate a broad understanding of ML algorithms and their application to complex practical problems, coupled with the theoretical background and algorithmic grasp to critically evaluate existing methods and innovate.

Qualifications We're Looking For:

• PhD/Research Degree or BS/MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or a related field.
• 2 to 5 years of experience in building Machine Learning/AI/Information Retrieval models.
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience in machine learning, data mining, artificial intelligence, and statistics.
• Familiarity with supervised and unsupervised algorithms, including linear models, decision trees, random forests, and gradient boosting machines.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in scientific programming with Python.
• Experience with Apache Spark is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Bonus Points:

• Publications or presentations in recognized Machine Learning and Data Mining journals/conferences (e.g., ICML).
• Knowledge in areas such as math/mathematical modeling, decision theory, fuzzy logic, Bayesian techniques, optimization techniques, statistical data analysis, information retrieval, natural language processing, large-scale data processing, and data mining.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and deconstruct complex problems into researchable components.
• Strong theoretical and research acumen.
