We are actively seeking a talented Data Scientist to play a pivotal role in constructing the next generation of procurement applications from the ground up. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to high-impact systems that integrate advanced search capabilities and AI-powered assistance.

About This Role

As a Data Scientist within the Global Corporate Procurement (GCP) Tech team, you will be instrumental in developing modern, AI/ML-powered applications designed to transform Amazon's procurement systems. This role offers a unique chance to develop data-driven systems utilizing AI/ML services, sophisticated statistical modeling techniques, and generative AI capabilities. You will collaborate closely with experienced data scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners to deliver solutions that will ultimately serve Amazon's worldwide workforce.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable machine learning models and data pipelines that power Amazon's procurement ecosystem.
  • Operate within an agile environment, taking full ownership of analytical solutions from initial conception through production deployment, and contributing to key technical decisions alongside seasoned data scientists and engineers.
  • Directly influence the daily experience of Amazonians as they procure goods and services.
  • Collaborate effectively with product managers, UX designers, and fellow data scientists to translate complex business requirements into elegant, data-driven solutions using advanced analytics, NLP, and AI/ML techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify the underlying predictors and causes of business-related challenges, implementing novel approaches for forecasting and prediction.
  • Identify, develop, manage, and execute analyses to uncover areas of opportunity, presenting comprehensive written business recommendations.
  • Act as a leader in quantitative analysis, collaborating with multiple teams to develop solutions that adhere to the highest standards of analytical rigor and data integrity.
  • Analyze and resolve business problems at their fundamental root causes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with data querying languages (e.g., SQL), scripting languages (e.g., Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a data/research scientist, statistician, or quantitative analyst in an internet-based company with complex and big data sources.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience creating or contributing to mathematical textbooks, research papers, or educational content.
  • Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field, or equivalent practical experience in a STEM field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field.
  • Proficiency with statistical packages and business intelligence tools such as SPSS, SAS, S-PLUS, or R.
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts and their practical application in reasoning and problem-solving.
  • Experience with clustered data processing technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Map-reduce, and Hive.
  • Experience working with or evaluating AI systems.
  • Proven experience applying quantitative analysis to solve business problems and making data-driven business decisions.
