Data Scientist, Alexa Connections - Chennai, India

Join the Alexa Connections team as a Data Scientist and lead the development of advanced machine learning and data science solutions for intelligent communication experiences. You will be instrumental in shaping calling, messaging, and email functionalities for millions of Alexa customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business leaders to translate complex challenges into scalable ML models and data-driven product decisions.
• Design, develop, and deploy sophisticated ML and statistical models for capabilities like prioritization, intent detection, and proactive action recommendations.
• Analyze large-scale datasets and conduct rigorous experiments, including A/B testing and causal analysis, to optimize customer engagement and product performance.
• Define and execute the applied science roadmap, working with global, cross-functional teams to deliver AI-driven solutions.
• Own the end-to-end model development lifecycle, from exploration and design to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Build data-driven business cases to prioritize science initiatives and demonstrate the measurable impact of ML solutions.
• Lead research to understand customer interactions and enhance the overall Alexa experience.
• Contribute to the broader science community through mentoring, improving data workflows, and sharing technical work.

  A Day in the Life:

  • Analyze business metrics, data trends, and review dashboards.
  • Write Python code for building packages and SQL queries for data analysis.
  • Deploy solutions for Connections experience teams.
  • Participate in working sessions with Product Managers to refine problem statements and new initiatives.
  • Explore new features and model architectures, leveraging AWS services and continuously upskilling on the latest technologies.
  • Utilize pre-trained Large Language Models (LLMs) to build applications that solve business problems.
  • Align on solution designs with Sr. Engineers and Principal Engineers.
  • Contribute to Monthly Business Reviews (MBR) and Weekly Business Reviews (WBR) with leadership.

  Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Data Scientist.
  • 3+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g., SQL), scripting languages (e.g., Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab).
  • 3+ years of experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, data analysis tools, and techniques.
  • 1+ year of experience contributing to mathematical textbooks, research papers, or educational content.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts and their application to reasoning and problem-solving.
  • Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
  • Experience in a Machine Learning or Data Scientist role at a large technology company.
  • Experience defining and creating benchmarks for assessing Generative AI model performance.
  • Experience working on multi-team, cross-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience applying quantitative analysis to solve business problems and making data-driven business decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively conveying complex concepts.
