Senior Data Scientist - Rewards Payout Portfolio

PayPal is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the Reward Payout Portfolio, taking full ownership of its end-to-end management, focusing on loss and decline rates for marketing budgets. This role involves extensive data analysis, monitoring, and forecasting. You will develop and implement risk rules and strategies, collaborating closely with ML engineering, product, and technology teams on attribute, model, and platform requirements. Effective communication with global stakeholders is crucial to ensure optimal customer experiences while meeting loss rate targets.

The ideal candidate is a proficient independent worker, accountable for their results, and capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously across all standard project areas. Strong analytical skills are essential, including the ability to perform quick estimates, structure complex analyses, build business cases, and forecast outcomes while navigating multi-dimensional trade-offs. A passion for data-driven problem-solving in a fast-paced environment is a must. Experience with Microsoft Excel, statistical software, SQL or other relational database languages, and analyzing large datasets is highly desired. Experience in management consulting is a plus.

Polished communication and influence skills are required to collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, business owners, and customers. You will learn from subject-matter experts, present findings clearly, and achieve alignment on risk strategy execution. Demonstrated ability to influence groups and resolve conflicts effectively is mandatory. An innate intellectual curiosity and a commitment to understanding current payments industry and risk management best practices are expected, with the goal of becoming a domain expert.

Qualifications:

• BS/BA degree with 6+ years of related professional experience, or a Master's degree with 4+ years of related experience.
• Focus on achieving overall analytic objectives with speed and quality.
• Ability to suggest ideas for operational plans and objectives.
• Recognized as a subject matter expert within the group/geography.
• Ability to work independently and proficiently on multiple assignments simultaneously with speed and quality.
• Experience managing junior decision/data scientists.
