Data Migration Engineer

Chargebee, a leader in subscription billing and revenue management, is seeking a skilled Data Migration Engineer to join our team in Chennai, India. This permanent role requires 2-5 years of experience.

We are looking for a proactive and experienced individual to act as a trusted migration consultant for our customers. You will engage deeply with clients to understand their business models, billing workflows, and data usage in their source systems, leveraging strong client-facing communication skills. Your role will involve leading end-to-end discovery for migration projects, analyzing customer data use cases, subscription lifecycle flows, invoicing, revenue recognition, and reporting needs. A business-oriented mindset, ideally with an MBA background, is preferred to grasp customer context and expectations effectively.

You will translate complex customer business requirements into clear migration logic, rules, and transformation specifications for our Data Engineering teams to automate. Identifying and articulating problem statements, edge cases, and dependencies in a structured and consultative manner is key to ensuring stakeholder alignment. A mandatory requirement is the ability to break down complex migration scenarios into comprehensive documentation.

Collaboration is essential. You will work closely with Migration Data Engineering, QA, Implementation Consultants, Engagement Managers, Solution Consultants, and Product teams to ensure accurate implementation, timely testing, and successful delivery of migration logic. Effective communication across both technical and non-technical audiences is expected.

We encourage continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to standardize, automate, and enhance migration approaches based on recurring customer patterns and SaaS best practices, contributing to scalable and repeatable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a trusted migration consultant, understanding customer business models and billing workflows.
• Lead end-to-end discovery for migration projects, analyzing data use cases and requirements.
• Translate business requirements into detailed migration logic and transformation specifications.
• Identify and articulate problem statements, edge cases, and dependencies clearly.
• Develop comprehensive documentation for complex migration scenarios.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, QA, implementation, and product teams.
• Drive standardization and automation improvements in migration processes.

Required Skills and Experience:

• SaaS Billing & Subscription Domain Expertise: Hands-on experience with subscription lifecycle management, invoicing, pricing, revenue recognition, and reporting. Ability to map complex customer business models into scalable billing systems.
• Migration Discovery & Business Analysis: Proven experience in leading migration discovery, analyzing source data, identifying use cases/edge cases, and translating business requirements into migration logic.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Solution Design: Strong experience working with data engineering, QA, implementation, and product teams. Drive for standardization and automation.
• Consultative Communication & Customer Engagement: Ability to engage as a trusted advisor, communicate complex concepts, set expectations, and manage challenging situations with confidence and empathy.
• Analytical Thinking & Problem-Solving: Strong skills in analyzing complex requirements, identifying edge cases, and developing structured solutions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence: Experience collaborating effectively with diverse teams, influencing outcomes, and driving alignment without direct authority.
