Data Engineer

The Information Security Technical Writer team at Zscaler is seeking a seasoned Senior Technical Writer to spearhead the creation and refinement of IT-related documentation. This role involves developing new policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to align with industry standards, frameworks, contractual obligations, and local laws. You will also be responsible for updating and maintaining existing procedures, collaborating with relevant teams to ensure compliance workflow management systems accurately reflect documented procedures, and managing the entire policy lifecycle. This position requires close collaboration with subject matter experts from Software Development, Enterprise IT, HR, and Legal.

Responsibilities:

• Engage with subject matter experts and independently acquire knowledge of our technology, internal controls, and compliance processes.
• Collaborate with compliance, audit teams, and other subject matter experts to implement timely and effective documentation edits for on-time publication.
• Propose enhancements to documentation and processes, taking ownership of the technical writing function.
• Adhere to design templates and company style guides for organizing and writing documentation.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of training materials, including concise informational modules for end-users on policy adherence.
• Develop and propose documentation plans and outlines for new procedures, user guides, training materials, and supporting documents, estimating project timelines and ensuring stakeholder alignment.
• Enhance and maintain existing documentation by established deadlines.
• Proactively manage the full policy lifecycle, from development and periodic review to version control and intranet publishing.
• Ensure Zscaler's compliance workflow management systems are consistently synchronized with documented or updated policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3.5 to 5 years of technical writing experience, with a preference for documenting IT policies and procedures.
• Proficiency in Visio or other process flow visualization tools, and Snagit.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Excellent command of the English language, including grammar and sentence composition.
• Strong command of the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, etc.).
• Authoring tool experience (e.g., MadCap Flare) is a plus.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, ISO 22301, ISO 27702, HITRUST, PCI DSS, and SOC Audits is preferred.
• Proven ability to learn and communicate complex topics effectively.
• Outstanding organizational, time management, planning, and prioritization skills.
